Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 have 7 game speed settings. These settings set a cap on the frame rate (also called tick rate) that the game runs at; raising the game speed setting does not make the game run faster if the game runs slowly due to the system not being able to run it at the capped speed.

The game speed caps are different between singleplayer and multiplayer.

Singleplayer game speed caps:

  • 6 - Unlimited (as high as system allows)
  • 5 - 60 FPS
  • 4 - 30 FPS
  • 3 - 20 FPS
  • 2 - 15 FPS
  • 1 - 12 FPS
  • 0 - 10 FPS

Multiplayer game speed caps:

  • 6 - 60 FPS
  • 5 - 45 FPS
  • 4 - 30 FPS
  • 3 - 20 FPS
  • 2 - 15 FPS
  • 1 - 12 FPS
  • 0 - 10 FPS

The game speed setting is saved to SUN.ini, as GameSpeed.

If the game is running at a constant frame rate of 15, one game second (used for mission and superweapon timers) equals one real-life second.
