The CnC Modding Encyclopedia

The CnC Modding Encyclopedia is an open database of modding knowledge maintained by the C&C Editing Community. Due to it's wiki-character, virtually every user can add, update and improve the information displayed, immediately and directly online.

While theoretically not limited to it, ModEnc's main focus currently is the modding of Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge, mostly because the main contributors are YR modders. The addition of information about the modding of other parts of the franchise is greatly encouraged.

The ultimate goal of ModEnc is to supersede DeeZire's Red Alert 2 & Yuris Revenge INI Editing Guide; not because it is bad in any way, but because it is not being updated anymore, therefore not expandable, and, to be honest, it is partly outdated by now. In addition, ModEnc not only covers the specific flags in the INIs, but also general information about the game, the engine, error messages, modding tools and the community itself.

The ModEnc crew does, however, strongly encourage the possession and consultation of The Guide in the process of modding, especially if the modder does not have continuous access to the internet.

ModEnc is not a project to kill the INI Guide; ModEnc is just taking the concept a step further.

History

After an idea of ComradeJ at the DeeZire forums in 2003, ModEnc was founded on Tuesday, 10.08.2004 at around 20:00 CEST by Renegade. The underlying technology is the MediaWiki-script, which also powers the various MediaWiki projects like Wikipedia, Wikiquote and Wikinews. ModEnc is currently hosted at modenc.renegadeprojects.com, and administrated by the people listed here.

Known Rip-offs

The sites and people listed below shamelessly stole our idea, and/or even parts of our content.

Comrade Max

Was at http://www.cnccommunity.net/modmind/, but seems to be dead now. No wonder, his concept sucked.

TotalPrime (link)

Ohh...a MediaWiki powered C&C modding encyclopedia called "PrimeNet ModEnc". Uh-hu. At least they had their own dozen of pages (including such informative pages like "Rape --> Is bad for your health").

NineBreakerFan (link)

...other than Mr. NBF, who's oldest revision of the main page strangely reminds me of our own, complete with the long outdated URLs that I'll have to fix soon.
