Talk:Reenabling RA2 Music

Discussion please. Edited by Marshall: It seems that someone is trying to make things more complicated than they need be and decompatabilize other community projects, albeit unintentionally.

Quite frankly I feel that this entry should not exist as it is misleading.

  • Step 2 should direct you to name the file ecachethemeRA2.mix - *cough*, anyway, this works for me
  • Step 3 advises you to start messing with the original game mixes against all common sense. - mods may want custom music, in which case this step saves you the bothering to interchange the mod's files and the custom thememd. This is actually to ENSURE compatibility.
  • Step 4 isn't even neccessary as the names are still present. - yes

If you want to enable RA2 music in YR you should use the YR Playlist Modifier available from http://marshall.cannis.net - yes, if one likes of course

I shall edit it though. //chpatrick

I've taken the liberty of editing it more extensively to better reflect the current state of knowledge of how the game reads mix files. While I agree that leaving thememd.ini loose in the ra2 directory is bad practice for a distributed mod, it is a good idea to test. Using an expandmd##.mix is the prefered way of overriding existing .ini files from previous patches and a mod should never be installed on top of another mod unless it was specifically designed to be. Don't take offense when such suggestions are presented, often they come from people who are very experienced with editing a certain aspect of the game and should not be brushed aside lightly.
