Removing the header-markup
This change to the bugs heading might be welcome in some cases, but considering nearly every page expects the old way, this was a dumb change...
Wasn't this exactly reasoning the opposite of why deleted/numbers variants of Deezire pages were restored? Because it _might_ break something?
-G-E
- All old pages have been replaced, so this is no longer an issue. Moreover, its original implementation forced the use of second-level headings in inappropriate places on some pages, resulting in incorrectly structured table of contents.
- The primary reason for this modification is that clicking 'Edit' next to Bugs would edit this template instead of the Bugs section of the original page. Reviewing the edit history of this template page reveals that such instances have already occurred.
- This change was suggested by me when DeathFish brought the issue with the misdirected editing link to my attention.
- Considering that changes required to the pages using the template were recognized and planned for in advance, it was most certainly not a "dumb change".
- Regarding your question: No. This wasn't the reason the numbered pages were restored. The problem with those is that external links might point to them, which then end up leading to nowhere.
- There is no issue with changing and updating things internally, even if it temporarily causes some inconsistencies. There's a big issue with killing external links that have been valid for 20 years for no practical reason at all.
- I will concede that it would've been more elegant for DeathFish to start that discussion here rather than on my talk page.
- That would've made the problem and the reasoning behind the change more visible, at least.
- Indeed, at that time I only discussed this matter with Renegade because I was not sure if the original writing was designed that way or if there were indeed flaws. But I think the reason for 'This template was updated...' section has already been explained. Do you have any other questions or suggestions, G-E?
