About

The Unofficial 1.002 Mini Patch ("YR 1.002 UMP" or just "UMP" for short) was developed by Marshall for the purpose of fixing various bugs in Yuri's Revenge that still remained after Westwood's 1.001 patch.

It is a mini-mod that doesn't affect the gameplay as a "normal" mod would and is similar in scale to the ini fixes Westwood distributed with its patches. It fixes obvious bugs that Westwood never fixed, and adds support for community-developed features like Terrain Expansion or Assault Mode.

Technical Background

Besides not being official, YR 1.002 is not a "true" patch, either. Rather, it is a mini-mod using XCC Mod Launcher for activation.

Advantages:

  • Fixes many bugs and issues your game will otherwise have
  • If you don't want to apply its changes for a game, you can simply deactivate/not activate it

Disadvantages:

  • You cannot run "real" mods next to it, at least not without investing some effort

However, many modders who have read the thread(s) or heard of the UMP elsewhere have already adjusted their rules to include most, if not all, of the bug fixes provided by the UMP. Refer to a mod's documention or changelog to see if that is the case.

If you don't use "real" mods, using the UMP is highly recommended.
If you do use mods, encourage your favourite modder to incorporate the UMP fixes.
If you are a modder, incorporate the UMP fixes into your mod by downloading the UMP Developer's Pack from the UMP website.
